This was a fun project, and I want to personally thank Michael Schieber, Riverfest President, and John Kockler, Riverfest Secretary, for selecting Bernadot Studios for this project.  We had a lot fun building it and we put this site together in just under a week. Lots of late nights and coffee for me, but I think it was all worth it.

Let’s take a look at some of the features of the site:

The problem with the Stokes Electric website when we were contacted is that is was essentially outdated, and Dave wanted to create a website that reflected the quality and professionalism of his services.  Just the kind of job we love.

Dave hired Bernadot Studios to create a new online image for his business, while also tying into his existing marketing campaigns.  He wanted an animation on the home page of previous work, and the ability to receive email leads from interested visitors. Here is a cool WordPress website we designed for the great folks at Unique Edge Customizing. We added a sporty flash animation to the home page to help give a modern and progressive feel to the site.  There are some cool rollover effects too when you move the mouse over the car (engine revving) or the tire (spinout with smoke). This type of animated intro sets the site apart from the competition and also makes the site fun to use – which helps make it memorable.

I was founding partner with Carlos Aguaron (foreward thinking WP Developer and a great guy) in a little venture we called GorillaThemes.  We never met in person, but we worked together for about 9 months over IM and email. Things went well but we soon hit a stumbling block with time schedules and client work. Long story short, I recently sold my interest to Carlos, and he continues to do a wonderful job running the site.  You could say he is the Gorilla in charge.

I still have a soft spot for the big ape. Working on a project like that for many months – putting in a lot of late nights and drinking lots of caffeine – it begins to grow on you. I even taught my 1 year old to do the Gorilla (pounds her chest with her tiny fist and say ahhahhhahh – too cute).  That being said, I know GT will flourish under Carlos’ guidance and direction. He is customer focused and has a can-do attitude.

Being proud of GorillaThemes, I wanted to share with you some of the things I worked on while at GT.  I think this helps illustrate my love for WordPress and design, and I have asked Carlos’ permission to include the design in my portfolio).

My brother recently purchased Howie’s Bar / Howie’s Live in La Crosse, WI, and he needed a new website for his new venture.  Howie’s is a bar and live entertainment venue that serves people from 21 to 101.  It has been a fixture in La Crosse for many decades, and my brother’s goal is to modernize the facility to become a hub for live music and entertainment.

Here were his needs for his website:

• Be able to manage the site himself
• Event calendar / Upcoming shows
• Email address database
• Post daily specials
• Promote their banquet facility

The solution:

All in all the site turned out very well, and they get a lot of positive feedback from their patrons.  I would expect some updates to the site very soon as the needs of the business are growing to meet the demand of their customers.
